Location: Louvre Museum Louvre, Denon 1st floor, Room 2, "Adoration of the Magi" + Le Laboratoire, Paris. 7 Stops. Mostly 1 painting.
Le Laboratoire presents the exhibition "While I Sleep" until June 30st, 2009. It is an exhibition created by the artist Shilpa Gupta about the universal theme of "Fear." This project was developed together with psychology Professor Mahzarin Banaji (Harvard University), and confronts the subconscious and the power images have over individuals' behavior.
“The exhibition explores these gaps in consciousness, of the individual and nationstate alike, where desire blinds itself by evolving into desperate greed, curtailing the natural movement of people socially, politically and economically.”
- Shilpa Gupta
As an echo of the experiment led at Le Laboratoire, Shilpa Gupta selected the Louvre's "Adoration of the Magi," a fresco by Bernardino Luini (1520-1525).
Observing Bernardino Luini's work, Shilpa Gupta questions us about barriers opposing dialogues between cultures: a crossed glance between her exhibition at Le Laboratoire and an artwork of the Louvre.
